Surfing the Internet can be likened to a form of travel to remote destinations. This cyber-tourism does not take place in a physical sense but rather involves an engaging sightseeing experience of a digital nature. Often launched via favorite and beloved access points, travel through cyberspace offers endless pathways to explore an ever-changing world.
Web Souvenirs is a collection of handmade ceramic plates, inspired by the visual experiences of cyber-tourism and resonating with the well-established tradition of ceramic souvenir plates. Each plate explores a different aspect of the cyber world and raises questions about different social phenomena.
The work was commissioned for the Sixth Israeli Ceramic Art Biennale at the Eretz Israel Museum in 2011 and continues to develop as an ongoing project. It has since been included in the Ceramic Top 40 exhibition, curated by Leslie Ferrin and in various shows in New York, Barcelona, Boston and Kansas City.
