AYA MARGULIS is an Israeli ceramic designer, artist and production manager. In 2008 Margulis received her master’s degree from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, following her undergraduate training at the academy’s Art and Ceramic Design departments and at the Designskolen at Kolden, Denmark. She has also studied porcelain lighting design at the Gila Ben David Studio in Rosh HaAyin, Israel.
Following her graduation, Margulis earned valuable experience as a technical assistant for the production line at the Anna Carmi Judaica Ceramics Studio in Jerusalem. In 2009 she became the manager of a forty-member team of artisans working assembly-line style in the Ceramics Department of a non-profit organization supplying creative work opportunities to underprivileged residents of Jerusalem.
In 2009 Margulis established with Rae’ut Stern the Doda Design Studio to further explore their shared passion for artistic expression through the ceramic medium.
Margulis currently resides in Jerusalem with her husband, an archeologist, and their two children.
RAE'UT STERN is an Israeli-American designer, artist and researcher. In 2008 Stern received her master’s degree from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, following an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Communications at Tel Aviv University.
During graduate school Stern began working at the Bezalel Academy of Art and in 2008 became adjunct professor, co-chairing an inter-departmental course on design research methodologies. In 2009 Stern was invited by the Israeli National Commission for UNESCO to lead the research at the Bezalel Academy to establish a National Digital Library of Art, Architecture and Design.
Based on her work for this initiative, in 2011 UNESCO awarded Stern a research fellowship at the National Gallery of Art and Library of Congress, Washington, DC.
In 2009, Stern established with Aya Margulis the Doda Design Studio to further explore their passion for artistic expression through the ceramic medium.
Stern currently resides in New York City.
